I.      Unit Objectives:†††

Cognitive:

The students should learn the history of basketball.

Set:Explanation of the skills test

Purpose:To test the students ability to perform the skills used in basketball

Activities:Basketball game

Objective:The students should be able to dribble and pass the ball effectively during the competition

Materials:5 basketballs, 5 cones

Set:Have the students tell me the most popular sport in Indiana, and who their favorite player is

Purpose:To improve the students dribbling and passing skills so they will be able to perform them successfully during competition

Body:basic skills of dribbling, practice dribbling, basic skills of passing, practice passing

Activities:Twenty-five Passes

Closure:Question and Answer

 

Objective:The students should demonstrate the proper techniques of shooting a lay-up and jump shot during practice and game time.

Materials:6 basketballs, 6 basketball goals

Set:Review the steps of dribbling and passing

Purpose:To teach the students the proper techniques of a lay-up and jump shot so they can perform one successfully during the game

Body:basic skills of lay-ups, practice lay-ups, basic skills of the jump shot, practice jump shooting

Activities:Thirty Seconds

Closure:Question and Answer

Objective:The students should demonstrate the skills learned in class by successfully using all the skills taught during the competition, while the teacher observes

Materials:1 basketball, 1 basketball court

Set:Review with the students the lay-up and jump shot

Purpose:To allow the students to apply the skills learned into a game setting

Objective: The students should demonstrate good shooting skills by making their shots during the competition, while the teacher observes

Purpose:To teach the students how to apply the skills learned into a tournament setting

Objective:The students should show what they have learned from the unit by scoring at least a seventy percent on the written test administered during class time

Materials:One written test for every student, one pencil for every student, 6 basketballs, 6 goals
